Calyan’s Story

Jacob Johnson

CEO & Founder

Jacob Johnson knew someone personally affected by human trafficking. The more he learned about its hidden, devastating nature, the more he felt compelled to act.

He studied Criminal Justice and Entrepreneurship in college, initially planning to enter law enforcement in hopes of bringing justice to human traffickers. But he soon realized the problem was far bigger and less understood than he imagined. Law enforcement was understaffed and nonprofits in the field were drastically under resourced - all vying for the same government funding, private grants, and donations.

Engaged and Launching Calyan Wax Co.

During a summer internship at a candy shop in California, Jacob’s entrepreneurial spirit came alive. He began dreaming of a business that could give back. The name “Calyan” was born from “California,” where the idea began, and “Vivian,” his mother’s name, honoring her support.

Back in Texas, Jacob started making candles in his bedroom. With encouragement from his girlfriend (now wife), Kameron, and support from close friends, Calyan Wax Co. launched in 2017 out of his mom’s garage.

From a 300 square foot garage to a 30,000 square foot warehouse in Arlington, Texas—Calyan continues to grow. But our mission remains the same: to fund the fight against human trafficking and bring more people into the light.
